Charge Automotive - Mustang EV Price: from £350,000

Last Updated On: 19/03/2024

Charge Automotive have recently launched a classic Mustang* EV, based on Ford's* iconic muscle car from the 1960s. Apart from installing a fully electric powertrain in place of the original components, this is a total new-build from the bottom up using new licensed bodyshells. These are made from a combination of steel bodyshell and composite panels.

Power comes from a 63kWh floor-mounted battery pack which can accept 50 kW DC charging, and four electric motors driving each wheel, generating peak power of 400 kW and 1520Nm motor torque. This should give a 200 mile (322km) range and a 0-60mph (97km/h) time of just 3.9 seconds.

On the faithfull 'McQueen' style exterior there are LED headlights, a revised grill, new tail lights and a set of special wheels, all stopped by a high performance brake system, which includes ABS, traction control, ESC and AVH (Auto Vehicle Hold). Suspension settings will include Lower, Ride and Raise options. Also included in the basic package are advanced driving aids, traffic sign recognition and lane departure warning. It will also be fitted with adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

Inside, the premium interior is very up to date, with more than a shade of Tesla's Model S, particularly the huge centrally mounted touchscreen which controls many of the car's functions. The car's ability to drive through two or four wheel drive can be switched via this touchscreen, as can the three driving modes of Eco, Sport and Ultimate.
